Fox Kits Youth Camps are fun and educational. Our Youth Wilderness Survival Camp is three days full of fun hands-on experiential education for scouts and non-scouts alike. This course is jam-packed full with hands-on training and scenarios. Participants will be taught by explanation, demonstration and practical application by well trained Venture Scouts with wilderness first aid certifications. Many of our youth instructors are also Eagle Scouts. Any scouts attending will leave having met all Wilderness Survival Merit Badge requirements.

Ways to avoid panic and maintain a high level of morale when lost
Special considerations for cold and snowy climates
Special considerations for moist forest (temperate) climates
Special considerations for desert (arid) climates
Special considerations for cool and windy (mountains or plains) climates

Explain and Demonstrate First Aid for the types of injuries that could occur while surviving in the wilderness:
Cuts
Abrasions
Bruises
Blisters
Sprains & Strains
Bites & Stings

Heat Exhaustion
Hypothermia
Dehydration

Explain and Demonstrate:
Assembly of a personal survival kit
Five different ways to signal for help when lost in the wilderness
Proper use of a signal mirror
Five ground-to-air signals
Three methods (other than matches and lighters) to build a fire
Building an improvised shelter from natural materials and spend a night in your shelter
How to protect yourself from insects, reptiles, bears and other animals
Three ways to prepare procured water for safe drinking
Proper clothing for overnight in extremely hot or extremely cold weather
When and how to safely procure edible wild plants or wildlife

Identify five easily recognized edible plants with multiple edible parts and no dangerous look-alikes that are found world-wide

Familiarity with the Universal Edibility Test

While Fox Kits will make every effort to contact you one month prior to the course start date to confirm your attendance we will automatically charge your card for the balance of the tuition fee two weeks prior to the first day of class. If rescheduling becomes necessary we will be happy to work with you; all payments will be applied to future training. It is your responsibility to confirm or reschedule! Requests for rescheduling must be received no later than two weeks prior to course start date at which time services are considered to have been rendered and your seat is confirmed (we can't fill vacated seats on that short a notice.) In such cases your seat is transferrable if you can find someone to attend in your place so long as they qualify for attendance.

The optional survial kit is very similar to our Pocket Minimalist - with a mirror substitution and the addtion of a first aid packet.
