Fox Kits Youth Camps are fun and educational. Our Youth Orienteering Camp is three days full of fun hands-on experiential education for scouts and non-scouts alike. This course is jam-packed full with hands-on training and orienteering exercises. Participants will be taught by explanation, demonstration and practical application by well trained Venture Scouts with wilderness navigation experience. Many of our youth instructors are also Eagle Scouts! Any scouts attending will leave having met all orienteering requirements for advancement through First Class as well as the Orienteering Merit Badge.

Explain and Demonstrate First Aid for the types of injuries that could occur while orienteering:
Cuts
Scratches
Blisters

Heatstroke
Heat Exhaustion
Hypothermia
Dehydration

Explain and Demonstrate:
Why you should be able to identify poisonous plants and animals found in your area and identify at least one of each
The features of an orienteering compass and how to use it
Orient a map using a compass
Take a compass bearing and follow it
How a topographic map shows terrain features; point out and name five terrain features on a map and in the field
Point out and name 10 symbols on a topographic map
Use of a topographic map with grid lines
Measure distances with an orienteering compass
Set up a pace course and determine walking and running 100 meter counts for open terrain, woods, steep terrain for day and night
Identify 20 control symbols and tell their meanings
Use and explain the control description sheet
Define and use an Attack Point
Define and use a Collecting Feature
Define and use Aiming Off
Define and use Contouring
Define and use Reading Ahead
Define and use a Handrail
Define and use Relocation
Define and use Rough & Fine Orienteering Take a 5-mile map & compass hike with a group
Orienteer a one mile course that requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items features
Act as an official during an orienteering event
Demonstrate improvised direction finding during the day and at night

All bonuses and offers are contingent upon complete payment and attendance of the course. While Fox Kits will make every effort to contact you one month prior to the course start date to confirm your attendance we will automatically charge your card for the balance of the tuition fee two weeks prior to the first day of class. If rescheduling becomes necessary we will be happy to work with you; all payments will be applied to future training. It is your responsibility to confirm or reschedule! Requests for rescheduling must be received no later than two weeks prior to course start date at which time services are considered to have been rendered and your seat is confirmed (we can't fill vacated seats on that short a notice.) In such cases your seat is transferrable if you can find someone to attend in your place so long as they qualify for attendance.
